Aging brings about a diffuse loss of the fullness, seen as a flattening of the cheeks, a hollowing of the temples, thinning of the lips and coarsening and wrinkling of the area around the mouth. Fat loss under the eyes creates a hollow effect. By replacing the volume loss, you reverse the creation of shadows and restore the reflection of light, creating a youthful, energetic and healthy appearance.
Volume replacement re-inflates the skin so that it is lifted; not surgically with scalpel and sutures, but lifted by the formation of your body’s own collagen. The microscopic particles that make up Sculptra™ stimulate that collagen production. Many patients are better served by this "liquid face-lift" than they would be by a surgical face lift that removes excess skin but does not restore volume.
Dr. Lucas has been using Sculptra™ since 2005 and has received extensive training from world leaders in the liquid face lift technique. Her experience has refined her ability to give gradual, natural and tasteful results.
What is Sculptra™ made of?
Sculptra is made of poly L lactic acid (PLLA), a synthetic biodegradable polymer that is both resorbable and bio compatible. PLLA has been widely used for many years in dissolvable sutures so it’s compatibility with the body is proven.
Where can it be used?
The best results are seen when the face is treated diffusely, restoring a fullness not just in the cheeks but also in the "frame" of the face and jawline in order to achieve an optimal lift. Sculptra™ should not be used in the lip area.
How long does it last?
The lasting effects of Sculptra™ vary from patient to patient, however studies have shown that some Sculptra™ patients have seen results last up to or greater than two years from the first treatment. Periodic touch up treatments will maintain the desired effects.
What are the side effects of Sculptra™?
As with all other injections there can be temporary swelling and bruising. Otherwise, there is no ‘downtime’. Other risks include the transient appearance of palpable, but usually not visible, papules under the skin which resolve spontaneously over a period of weeks to months.
How much do I need?
A general rule of thumb is that a person will need one vial of Sculptra™ per decade of life. So, the typical 60 year old patient will need 6 vials. Those vials are delivered two at a time and injection sessions are separated by 4-8 weeks (or longer if the patient chooses to go even slower).
What is the price?
$700 per vial
